I wasn’t making an excuse for the mother, nor do I know anything about her upbringing or circumstances beyond what is introduced in this article. I was making an assumption that this story stretches beyond this generation.

I wish that was how it worked with all victimization. Sadly, we learn how to be parents from our own parents— good and bad. Of course we are capable of improving on what was done by the previous generation, but we all carry baggage from our own upbringing that is difficult to overcome.
