I assume the article is referencing the fact that Prince was Jehovah’s Witness, and they don’t celebrate birthdays. The text here is misleading— it’s like saying a Christian wanted to cancel Yom Kippur.

I wasn’t sure how the cat felt about us moving across the country. On day two in the new house, he shat in three equal piles - one on each of the couch cushions.

Agreed. I do wonder about the choice of the frayed chair. I assume it’s some ridiculously expensive chair with original upholstery, otherwise I don’t get the symbolism.

Yes. I posted another comment where I say that I don’t like Law & Order SVU for a number of reasons, one of which being that I think there are people who will find it erotic.

I crave attention, even negative shade court attention.

I got a photo of the parade rehearsal.

Could be said of all fashion.

You had me until the last 10 words.

Also a great point. Not to downplay the effects of assault and abuse AT ALL, but shows often show a woman mentally collapsing after a rape. That certainly happens— but there are many women who internalize it, bury it, and try to get on with their lives. If 20+% of women have been assaulted, the examples we see on tv

I can’t watch Law and Order: SVU because I think every single episode uses sexual assault as a gimmick to “shock” the audience. I think that show has normalized a lot of sex crimes instead of mobilizing people to fight back against abuse. I also worry there are people who get off on the plots.

Yes, absolutely. On one hand, there’s a societal consensus that male rape is wrong and awful and consent is never assumed. However, I think men often carry more shame around their rape because of the connection between a sex act and masculinity. (ie- does getting raped make me gay or less of a man?)

Yes and no. I do think that rape and sexual assault is very much a part of the human culture— not just for women or adults. But the way it’s used doesn’t accurately reflect what rape is, who rapists are, and what fallout there is. I find that rape is mostly used in film to manipulate he audience or to take a shortcut

Nerd fact: The premise of Empire is basically the exact same as The Lion in Winter, which is about Henry II and the struggle to name an heir. His estranged wife has been locked up in a castle and gets out to immediately begin plotting the ascension of her favorite son, of which they have three. One son is desperate

I will only read it if it’s called “America, I am So Fucking Sorry.”

Yup. Funny how people protest PP but pretend that the local doctor’s office/private hospital aren’t performing abortions every day.

Depends. Will any rich, white babies be born with disabilities? Pretty sure all the pro-lifers in TX don’t apply that belief to their own disabled fetuses.

This is what annoys me any time Congress decides to call a CEO in so they can rip him apart. Large corporations are often better run than our own government departments are.

This makes me so very angry. It’s failing kids in the most obvious, horrendous way and no one is stepping up to fix it.

I think states should have to disclose how much money is spent defending laws that are ultimately ruled unconstitutional.

So true- but Jax’s screw-ups were mostly minor (late for work, stirring up drama). James gets in drunken fights in LVP’s restaurants.
