The question matters because some people commenting on this story are more apt to defend a white teacher than a teacher of color. In both cases, the behavior is indefensible. And yet there are people who are defending this woman and finding a way to blame the students.

He’s more like that guy who got famous for that one thing who is now trying to do that other thing. He’s like Justin Timberlake and singing/acting, except he went fashion design/directing.

I love (loved?) Tom Ford but using this image as the cover has just turned me off to everything he does.

I’m not in the industry so I don’t know firsthand. But if the non-TFA teachers don’t want to teach in the inner cities, then I’d love to hear their solution for getting good long-term teachers there. And please don’t say it’s as simple as more money, because I doubt they would stick around 5+ years in these tough…

Not disagreeing with you— but credentialed, tenured, unionized teachers are not necessarily providing a better education to our kids. And those teachers aren’t exactly sprinting to the inner cities to fill open positions there.

No, you’re not allowed to walk out. But you’re not allowed to scream racist things at kids either, so.... given the choice-- walk out.

Yes, the burnout rate is high. But young, idealistic teachers can provide a lot of value to a school and community in a short 2-3 year commitment.
