Yeah we want it settled so we can move on with our lives. All of this has been bad news and incredibly embarrassing for us. UNC is pretty territorial and many believe, for good reasons but mostly bad, that they’ve done enough internally to change/fix things and resent outsiders, especially corrupt ones like the NCAA,

The Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, AD all resigned soon after (Vice Chan and AD were right away, Chan was two years later) this first broke many years ago. The football staff was cleaned out. The athletic advising corps was gutted and reorganized. The Department in question was gutted, renamed, and refocused. The school

This is absolutely true. In my opinion, the craziness the NC legislature has/might continue to inflict on the state with insane budget cuts and batshit laws has far more potential to damage UNC’s prospects

But yeah you’re absolutely right that there’s damage done and that it will be felt. However I think your comments range into hyperbole. UNC is too well-connected and too respected for their alumni to stop getting jobs/good graduate opportunities. UNC is first among public universities in Rhodes Scholars since 1987.

Well, I am a student who did the work, paid my money. What good does being enraged do? No one is going to reward me for being enraged. If, as you suggest, grad admissions will look at me differently, they might nod their heads at me for being enraged and then just throw my app away as you suggest. I’m also not enraged

No, UNC did lots of things wrong and it’s very embarrassing and downright shameful.

This also ignores the fact that UNC is so incredibly cheap for in-state students. It really isn’t a big financial commitment at all for them (approx 80 percent of student body) so the school will continually attract the best and the brightest from NC, a state with a lot of new money/high tech industries - i.e., the

Also I’m a UNC alum (‘15) with a solid GPA and got a job immediately out of college that paid well despite not knowing a single person in the city I was in. Almost all my friends had the same experience. The ones that didn’t had very poor GPAs/didn’t pursue highly desirable jobs right out of school

UNC and Penn St were never close to the same level

You’re definitely right that it’s hurt us enormously with faculty recruitment, but what’s hurt us way more is the NC legislature slashing funding for public education to the bone and passing other insane laws

And by the way the reason students and alumni fight is b/c people like you tell them the degrees they spent lots of money and thousands of hours working for are now worthless b/c approx 5,000 students over 20 years got easy As in a few of classes

That’s absolutely not true. The Chancellor resigned, the Vice Chancellor resigned, the Athletic Director resigned, the head of the department was forced out, the department was renamed and completely reorganized

Also 4,700 students over 20 years in a school with 16,000 undergrads any given year is a small number

Have you ever interacted with anyone who’s ever worked in a large organization? No one knows anything about what other’s jobs are and what they’re doing on a day to day basis

It’s pretty insane to compare a situation in which little kids had dicks forced into their assholes to another situation in which disadvantaged and exploited athletes were given free As

That’s why the UNC chancellor resigned over this, the Vice Chancellor resigned, the Athletic Director was forced to retire early, and the department head in charge of all this was forced to retire

He does not have his job at UNC. He was forced to retire in 2012.

UNC is clearly the only top school that’s deevaluated itself lately. Oh wait: “According to former Duke University professor Stuart Rojstaczer, who researches college grades, A has been the most common grade at Harvard University for 20 years, and has been the most common grade nationwide since 1998.”

Julius Nyang’oro is a man

Absolutely right. A class in a very small department that a total of 2,000 kids took over 20 years in a school of approx 16,000 means that the entire school is a fraud
