@jsheely: Thanks to number-portability, you can't be sure any given website will be able to tell you this info, but I recently used [mobilecarrierlookup.com] with good results. I also used [www.funsms.net] in the past, but I think they might be a little out of date (I could easily be wrong, though).

@gforster: Their instructions certainly start out well enough: "...grasp the large ball with one hand, and the shaft with the other."

@petieboy: I have to agree with mrosedal on this. I'm certainly not a command line snob. I can click through faster than I can type. However, often enough, it is easier to say, "Type 'xyz and hit Enter." than to walk them through finding that icon that looks like Snoopy but in cat form after clicking your way

This looks pretty cool. I'd like to see a comparison between it and CRP [lifehacker.com] What are the main pros and cons? between them?

I'll have to test this when I get to the office (Linux at home). Looks nice though. We just changed our Public PCs at work to a black and white style it it looks really classy and crisp (but the 'black' on the floating logo doesn't quite match the 'black' background... oh well).

@veronykah: LOL I always thought the fridge thing was normal. It wasn't until recently that rentals started including that (rarely) and I also started checking other areas of the world that I realized how strange it was NOT to include it.

I'm paid every other as well. I set it up so my bills get done that night (Wed, for me). The two 'blue moon' paychecks each year sit in the account until the next paycheck and bill-paying time so I can use it to hit the bills harder. I'm working on getting out of debt, so this helps me quite a bit.

@jbarr: It certainly has been abused, and will be again. In enterprise systems, however, backups help the legal situation since most (not all) people won't consider what was backed up the night before, let alone over the last month. The effectiveness of this, however, is limited to the length of the backup scheme

I would love to be able to do this. Many of my co-workers have a 9-80 schedule (every other Friday off), but some parts of our department (mine) just can't. Truth is, I'd really like to work 12-hour shifts. In a two-week pay period, you'd end up with a 7-80 plan: one week of three 12-hour shifts, the second week of

@tarrkid: I can't say I'm impressed by the proffered program, but your comment is one of the most useful gems I've seen in a long time. I have several mission critical servers that need a regular reboot. I want to have them log in automatically, but I don't dare. Sure, they're in a secure room, but you just don't

@StrangeTikiGod: The agents themselves are not exempt from the 4th, the traveler is. Why? Simple: the traveler has not officially entered the US, and is therefore not covered by the Constitution, until Border Control/ Immigration has stamped its approval on your passport and you become officially 'here'.

This is pretty cool. As someone else mentioned, I do this 'in my head'. I have icons in different places on my desktop depending on what they are or what their usage is. My trouble is that Windows screws it all up if you change resolution (including monitor orientation) or if it crashes, or, well for a bunch of

Great looking lady, but, with that extra short skirt, she's getting skin oil on the nice, shiny paint... the only good part of the car. Well, maybe I like the doors, too.

@wickedcupofjoe: I've had that problem with a different program. It isn't (probably) the program; it's Windows... I'm pretty sure. I have a little script for locking my laptop (many laptops don't have the Windows key, so you can't do the Win-L to lock them). I had it in a folder and the shortcut (Ctrl-Alt-Z) didn't

@Deprong Mori: I think that's one good idea, but I still haven't received my invite! :( I'm very frustrated by this and have been tying for a long time.

I noticed the site wasn't ready at the 'promised' time of 10:00 UTC-8 as it still said 2.xxx. It stayed that way until I left for lunch, then work. At work, I was able to download it with minimal trouble. I was expecting some trouble with pages not loading due to the extreme hits, so I wasn't concerned, just

I don't think it's setup for editing, so you'll want to copy it for yourself. Let me know if you have any trouble with it (preferably with an idea for the solution, please).

There seems to be plenty to argue about here! The spreadsheet has certain assumptions that might not apply to many of us, and that's the source of a lot of the arguing. I decided (as an experiment, never done this before) to build the spreadsheet myself and publish it as a Google spreadsheet. You can go here [spread

@CelineC: I really tried to give Zooomr a chance, especially since it does hit two of my needs: no limits and free. Unfortunately, there are some serious usability issues and next-to-zero support. The community tries, though, because there are some good, friendly people there. I posted a more in-depth comment on

@Th3Sourc3: Starting with your second point, I totally agree. I'm an avid GMail/GCal user. I have Thunderbird at home, which works fine with both of those. (But there are things about Thunderbird/Lightening I don't really enjoy.) I'd love it if Google (or somebody) came out with a GMail/GCal executable!
