Once the credits roll, can you continue playing in the open world with your levels and items? Is there a “point of no return” of sorts?

Edit: Fantastic review, by the by. I didn’t think I could be more excited than I already was...

kotaku is till probably one of the fw reviewers i probably “trust”

Dammit man...what a good read. The feels...so many feels. *slow clap*

I think I might have a few years on you, Schreier, but apart from that, your FF anecdotes were spot-on for my own experiences. I was eight when the first FF dropped in the West; I rented it from a place on post (I lived on a military base overseas at that time), fell in love with it, and never looked back.

I maintain

Jason this line right here:

Jason,

Jason....wow. You made me tear up a few times — from a fucking review, mind you. I’m so glad you included what Final Fantasy means to you in the review, because at the end of the day, who isn’t going to go into this game (and review) with literal decades of FF history and baggage?

Jason, I was on the fence for a while, but your review helped me to pull the trigger. Looking forward to starting this journey!

Oh yeah. If Jason wasn’t doing the review, I wasn’t going to read it.

Right? I had the same thing. And all these personal bits were great!

Jason, this is officially the first video game review that left me teary eyed. Excellent work. This is why I read Kotaku.

Cecil and Kain and Rydia and Edge and Rosa might just be pixels on a screen, but they’re as real as anyone you know.”

I’m not crying. You’re crying.

Hi Jason, thanks for the awesome review article.

I remember being almost in tears when I unwrapped FF9 for Xmas as a kid, that’s how much lovr I had for FF. After being burned by 13 and floundering in the wild for so long, I’ve been hesitant to get excited about 15. And you know what?

I’d never thought i’d finally get to read this. Also it’s a huge reminder that i’m a decade older now...I’m not sure what to feel.

One of the best reviews I’ve read on this site...bravo. Now I’m even more excited for tomorrow!

Beautifully written review, Jason. Filled me with nostalgia growing up with these games and also -for the first time- makes me genuinely interested about FF XV. I too have felt “jaded” when it comes to big-budget JRPGs, haven’t played one since FF X, but I will definitely give this one a shot. Should have time to play

The skeptical part of me thinks that some events in the game might happen off-screen because they’re coming as DLC. Or maybe it’s just the result of a tumultuous development cycle. Dunno!

I played it a bit differently than most people will, since I had spent 12 hours with a preview build on a different PS4 before playing the final copy for review. I skipped pretty much all the sidequests while doing the main story, then came back and explored. Most people will (or at least should) take their time and

That first paragraph almost brought a tear to my eye:
