This is part of the reason why I feel like Twitch is so trashy these days. The fact that lonely, depressed people gravitate towards the medium is no surprise. People on Twitch have been pretty vocal about it since the JTV days, it has come part and parcel with the medium itself. Once the emphasis became making an

The documentary is so long and so dense, with so many interlocking parts that writing about it was very difficult. I had two hours. Kotaku dot com is nominally a video game website and I know that it’s a duty to my audience to tie my coverage into topics that relate to games. Memetics seemed like a surer bet than the

This is literally the least important thing governments need to get involved with.

This is Donald Trump’s America.

I met my now wife about 7 years ago, and I slowly got her into gaming by casually introducing her to co-op games, and eventually WoW. She’s by no means a hardcore gamer, but she still beats a few games a year. It took a lot of work to get her to come around and become comfortable with the idea of spending time with me

An entire generation of males become more and more repugnant...

One of my old WoW raiding guildmates would stream and her chat was *so* filled with pervs I actually decided to sit there and take screenshots of the chat (and a couple other women streamers I knew) and compared them to male streamers. The image is on my computer but I’ve seen it make the rounds in a few places, I’ll

The more meaningful study would have been between women streamers who purposely, prominently display their chests ( low cut shirts, camera focused and angled on chests with the cam stream larger than the game stream; aka the titty streamers as the article calls them) and legit, normal women streamers who are actually

It isn’t necessarily being highlighted as objectifying here. It denotes that a man can get on the internet and stream some gaming shit and no one is discussing how cute he is, but when a woman does it they do. This isn’t a horrific thing in and of itself, but it does show that women are prized/judged for their looks

It does when you want to play an MMORPG and not a squad based shooter.

you do know that it is the wealthy people that avoid paying taxes - like trump - as opposed to the poor people? even if someone pays no federal taxes, they pay state taxes and payroll taxes. and to pay no federal taxes you have to make less than $18,000 per year (while still paying state and payroll tax). meanwhile

But how else will people know that I am Above celebrity culture and reality television?? /s

His schtick was funny to me the first time. I liked his WoW and Witcher segments, but this... made me want to punch myself in the face it was so unbelievably dumb.

What a ridiculous thing to say. Of all the genres out there JRPGs tend to respect your time the most. Youget a lot of value for your money, for one, and it’s in JRPGs where storytelling in gaming really flourishes. Games like Persona and Trails in the Sky/Cold Steel are incredible for their stories

If you don’t grow up with JRPGs, then I could see how they wouldn’t make any sense to you. They’re an acquired taste. But once you’ve acquired it, man...you can’t stop.

South Korea’s Ballistix are the new World Champions of Heroes of the Storm after defeating Europe’s Fnatic HotS 3-1 in a best-of-five series at BlizzCon 2016. They had beat Fnatic 2-o in a series from earlier in the tournament. The win was worth $300,000 in prize money.

Eh I wouldn’t say ‘everything is cast in doubt.’ Come on. The campus rape movement has been going strong since this fiasco. It was one rape story that didn’t check out. That’s like saying we shouldn’t trust robbery accusations now that Ryan Lochtelied.

How is that related to e-sports and people putting in the hustle elsewhere. If it makes you money and recognized by the government/taxable, it’s respectable.

I really like the idea of basing it around cities rather than regions, foster home team fans. This might be where casual fans start seeing esports as a legitimate sport.

I think the U.S. economy already gave kids enough reasons to not get a college degree.
