No, the nozzle shutoff is triggered by the Venturi effect occurring with the vacuum/suction of the air from the empty fuel tank up into the small hole in the fuel nozzle. Once the tank is full, the airflow through the hole is interrupted & a mechanical shutoff occurs in the nozzle ending the flow of fuel.

Most vehicles have a small arrow in the Instrument Cluster near the Fuel Indicator Gauge that tells you which side of the vehicle the fuel filler door is located on.
