Was that meant to be “Doom”, or is there a subgenre I’m not familiar with?

It couldn’t possibly be that some people enjoy simple unique games made by the absolute cream of the crop indie devs... what a cynical, stupid take.
Same. All the same.
But that would entirely defeat the purpose of their product...
If you want to play this style of a game you are better off with Life is Strange, Until Dawn, or one of the better Tell Tale games. The QD games are honestly just poorly written.
Hey sometimes a good trainwreck is fun to play through.
While I don’t believe art can be separated from the artist, you can enjoy stuff in spite of problematic aspects. The key is to acknowledge and accept it, rather than ignore or deny it.
I wanna make something clear. I make no claims of any kind of ethical high ground. I honestly don’t care. Blizzard could be directly funding death squads in third world countries and I’m still buying 3 copies of Diablo 4. I’m pretty much the perfect consumer for the mega corporation ruled future. I’m…
If that style of game intrigues you I’d suggest trying Until Dawn. It’s basically a really solid interactive goofy horror movie. Plus no David Cage involvement. Added bonus it has Rami Malek before he blew up.
They are basically choose your own adventure books. heavy rain did some interesting things with the controlls and cutscene interactivity but they are not anything special (IMO)
Heavy Rain is one of the best game experiences I had drunk with friends. Granted, not for the reasons Cage intended, but as a comedy it’s very funny.
Heavy Rain, for its time, was an ambitious and unique title that, IMO, still holds up as a worthwhile experience. It has plot holes and lacks a whole lot of “gameplay” in favor of interactive cutscenes and emphasizing choice, but those choices being legitimately meaningful and altering the course of the mystery…
I played Detroit. It's not incoherent, mit in a Kojima way. As a game, it's not good. Seriously, fuck QuickTime Events in 2021. However, the stories are interesting, the decisions have impact on the game and the game provokes you to think. Totally worth a playthrough.
The problem with that stance is, it still enables them to go on. While you aren’t buying it, you are still keeping their name alive and helping keep their legacy going when they go on to try and get another project going. That is, for purchases made after the news was revealed.
Indigo Prophecy is one of those games that I enjoyed way, way more than I feel I objectively should have enjoyed it.
I fucking LOVED Heavy Rain, until the end. I correctly figured out who the killer was, but they had you play a section where you played as the (real) killer interacting with a (fake) killer. It was designed solely to keep you from figuring out the mystery but made no sense with the plot. Anyway, it pissed me off so…
Or if you have an independent game shop near you, or relatively-independent anyway, better that than GameStop.
The thing about separating the artist from the art is that in this particular industry? You really don’t have to. There are thousands and thousands of games out there - go play them instead
I have played several Quantic Dream games
This is my buffy argument. Joss Whedon? Crap.
