This article from the New Yorker presumably regards one financier; but it does get into aspects of corruption in the current administration. Not anything you do not know, of course. But still disheartening.

Yeah, I’m all for scrutinizing the shit out of the media we consume, but far too many people are too quick to cry #FAKENEWS and move on without actually investigating or doing the most basic research.

See those comments on the Splinter article even. That the media is/was making too big a deal about it and lying about the power of the hurricane, that it wasn’t that bad, etc. One person was in Houston too. He hasn’t responded so perhaps he was flooded out and had to evacuate. Or he kept insisting it wasn’t a big deal…

There have been grays commenting on the various GM hurricane posts insisting the media is blowing this out of proportion for ratings. 

I really wish you would point out how much danger it’s put their audience in to teach them the news lies. How many didn’t evacuate or prepare a adequately because “Trump says it’s fake news so what else are they lying about?! They’re blowing this up to sell stuff and make money!”

One hundred and seven. I have replaced my son’s glasses roughly 107 times since he got his first pair in grade three. He’s 21 now, and autistic, so he ain’t leaving home or getting a full-time job any time soon (and my heart still isn’t broken, Gwen). I’m pretty sure he’ll be getting pair 108 from me, too.

Haha! when i was a kid I wanted glasses, a cast, and braces SO bad. I also wished my period would come at an early age. I have no idea why I wished such uncomfortable things for myself lol. Sure enough I got everything but the cast eventually.

Buck up, Gwen. Maybe your kid will be like both of mine, who said they NEEDED glasses, got a “yeah, sure” from the mall optometrist, and whose mom agreed to get the coolest style of the moment. Yeah, wtf was that? I use glasses (well actually contacts these days), and I have since I was little. It’s mildly inconvenient, not heartbreaking.
