Fun fact - the reason the Germans switched to using gas chambers not shootings is because of the pyschological impact shooting that many people would have on troops. They wanted to save the troops from having to feel like they were doing something barbaric to the Jews.

You are delightfully cavalier about the deaths of people who aren’t you. One in seven billion, right? Who’s even going to notice?

This is true. When I was younger, we had a valiant judge on the California Supreme Court, Rose Bird, who did her best to overturn death penalty cases before her. She was removed by the voters who were scandalised at her anti-death penalty stance. I believe that no other judge in California has ever been removed by the

A lot of people I know who are pro-death penalty expressed shock at Saddam Hussein’s execution because hanging is “barbaric”.

I’m just completely befuddled by people who are aghast at Saudi Arabia’s beheading who seemingly have no issue with tying people to a chair and electrocuting them. Or tying them down for an excruciating drug-induced death. Sorry for the graphic nature but you are right, it is anathema to any concept of civil society.

And, they’ll just say “oops” and shrug their shoulders and move on to the next execution.

They went from a conservative Democratic government to a conservative Republican government since then. Don’t ever let someone tell you that both parties are the same.

Absent anything else crazy going on this still wouldn’t make much news given that while support is falling, most Americans still support capital punishment. Hell, I talked to someone yesterday who was pissed that people were trying to stop the executions.

Posthumous exoneration via DNA is a very real possibility. WTAF, Arkansas (and our newly conservative SCOTUS)?

Now this is some cruel and unusual punishment shit. Especially if DNA later will show he was not guilty.

I assume they believed that they couldn’t get alternative drugs to execute with. But it’s not like these men were going free if they weren’t killed. Just fucking disgusting. But I’m against the death penalty in general sic I’m biased on this.

And...the less shiny, more shitty US Supreme Court just denied the stay and the execution is cleared to commence. I can’t help but feel like this is a harbinger of how the court will affect things moving forward.

The lawsuit by the pharmaceutical company could have serious consequences for the U.S healthcare system. European Union based companies have threatened to stop selling ALL their products to America if ONE is used in an execution. They’re playing with fire.

The DEA should kick in some doors and confiscate the illegally procured drugs.

At the last minute, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, put Lee’s execution on hold for 75 minutes.

This whole thing is so obscene. But it is getting shuffled to the bottom on a lot of coverage because of all the othe crazy shit going on.

“The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons.”
― Fyodor Dostoyevsky

So, in the same sense, how are some pro-choice peeps so against the death penalty when they’re okay with terminating a pregnancy?

I think you missed the part where Pierrepoint later came to view capital punishment as pointless, and spoke out against it. It’s right there in the section you link to.
