It’s like nearly the ultimate mind-fuck. I say nearly because the ultimate mindfuck is when they execute someone with such a low IQ that that person doesn’t even realize they are being lead to the execution chamber, which is something I’ve read that happens from time to time with these things.

There just isn’t a moral or logistical argument one can make in favor of it. It’s not a deterrent, it costs astronomically more tax dollars than just jailing prisoners for life, there is no way to guarantee that only the guilty suffer capital punishment... the only argument in favor is straight up bloodlust.

I would consider myself politically moderate for the most part. With the exception of capital punishment. I can’t think of any situation where I would say the appropriate punishment should be death. It’s a barbaric act that must end.

Because the executioners and their mob of sadists wouldn’t want to end up using a drug that would likely give the prisoner feelings of peace as they breathe their final breath. They might even die with a smile on their face which would not be satisfactory. It isn’t just about killing, it’s about suffering and revenge.
Thousands - likely millions - of patients in hospitals have had quiet, peaceful deaths through morphine overdoses and other opiates, where the level given to alleviate pain is intentionally beyond the lethal dose.
This is so disgusting apart from these drugs being used in a way not intended and seeing how some drugs cause unnecessary pain. These inmates being mentally ill and denied access to professionals is denying them their constitutional rights to a fair trial. There is also the unknown toll it will take on executioners…
