An article by the Australian Islamic woman who invented the burkini. “I invented the burkini to give freedom to women, not take it away”. She was devastated by the ban (and not for financial reasons). She’ll be so happy to hear it’s revoked. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
It’s not about being clean and they know it. They see a problem in their communities and they are trying to ‘fix’ it from a very skewed perspective. If they want to help Muslim women, or any other immigrant women, in their community then they should implement community outreach programs to help people adjust and feel…
I come from a long line of pale creatures and when, grub-like, we children emerged on the beach, all my cousins were required to swim wearing t-shirts so they wouldn’t burst into flames. Would this be banned because of “hygiene”
Yeah I’ll probably be wearing a bikini (or at least a top with board shorts) when I’m 85 because I just prefer them and idgaf if my stomach isn’t flat. And I’ve been publicly topless. But if you told me I HAD to? Hell to the no. I burn easy and I’m gonna cover up when I want to.
People have been showing pictures of nuns in their habits on French beaches NOT being accosted by the police.
This is what women had to wear to the beach in the early 1900's. This whole burkini ban thing is ridiculous and it only serves to further alienate the Muslim community. They are just trying to enjoy a day at the beach with their friends and families. If women want to wear these to preserve their modesty on the beach,…
THE THINGS THIS WORK COMPUTER HAS SEEN.
The one and ONLY result of a ban like is for Muslim women to have less freedom than others. You can say, “well they just don’t have to wear the burkini” or that it’s freeing them from the (perceived) abuse of their husbands, but the ONE result will be Muslim women cannot use the beach. If their husbands are to blame,…
when your skin gets too brown
I mean, it is blatant xenophobia, but I am so confused as to how they thought this would work to begin with.
What a wild and crazy court ruling that nobody could possibly have seen coming from a mile away.
Follow-up headline: NO SHIT.
Because our patriarchal overlords don't have critical thinking abilities.
Saw this on the news this morning. There was footage of police enforcing the ban which included about three or four officers standing over a woman while she sat on the sand and was forced to take off the top covering. Yeah, it was pretty stupid and creepy.
Of course there is medical evidence showing that being fully clothed is unhygienic and anyone who thinks otherwise supports ISIS.
