Actually its very effective.. its just more diffuse because it doesn’t cause radical shifts.. the shifts are more gradual since they confirm existing biases and give reasons that might otherwise be open to “new” ideas” to start closing their “minds” in favour of bias. I suppose you can say its less of a shift and more

My dad used to say,"White people will do anything to keep from working." YouTube and Instagram culture proves him right.

Roo, despite your low stars, know that you are NOT yelling into the void. I gotcha!

What you thought was “colorblind” was blind to injustice committed under your nose.

I still haven’t gotten over the first time I heard my local classic rock station playing a Pearl Jam song. Made me feel ancient.

I find that if someone says the Civil War was about states’ rights, asking “A state’s right to do what?” usually results in a lot of stammering.

Same, Im the black sheep in my family for thinking trump is a horrible, racist grifter. Its gotten to the point where they lie to me and claim they dont watch the news anymore (despite letting things they have been told by fox personalities slip).

The false assumption you’re making is that being educated is the same as being intelligent. Lots of educated fools running around.

Wow is that the way white people see it?

Kudos to you for retaining some empathy. I grew up among these people as well but have long since lost any empathy for them. Our prosperity as a nation has been off-shored - whether by literally moving jobs overseas or by moving our collective wealth into the offshore bank accounts of billionaires - largely due to

Well here’s the thing: These people don’t really have experience of black people being blatantly oppressed because there are no black people around them generally. They’re poor white people who have not had easy lives but also can’t really put themselves in the shoes of black people and think that their lives would be

A lot of people are very comfortable with the mental gymnastics necessary to vote for a blatantly racist candidate running on a blatantly hateful and racist platform while still considering themselves good people. Bonus points when they pretend they are just as much of a victim as those being directly oppressed.

Or they’ve got a few in their family but rather confront black people with a “not all white people,” than confront daddy about his MAGA hat.

We need to keep Biden’s feet to the fire (sorry for that gross image) because he’s 100% feeling like he doesn’t have to win ANYONE over because Trump is that bad. His campaign is the epitome of white male privilege in that he literally has to do zero work while everyone pushes him over the finish line.

The COVID pandemic is the best thing that could have happened to Biden politically. It highlighted Trump’s lack of crisis management skills, derailed the economic expansion and, most importantly, allowed Biden to avoid extensively and exhaustively traveling the country making unscripted appearances. There’s talk of

Honestly, I don’t think it’s abortion as much as we think it is. I feel like we overestimate the religiousness of the suburbs, but I don’t have any data on that, just my supposition based on my experience there. I think it’s race. Democrats are associated with the racial justice narrative and for suburban white women

Whenever possible, I link to AP or Reuters stories. They’re rarely the *best* stories, but the largest wire services have a financial interest in staying as neutral as possible. That usually negates the “WaPo/NYT/CNN is fake news!” knee jerk reactions.

Those white women are comfortable being anti-choice above all else because they know if they ever needed an abortion, they could get one.
