Yup. They are sex/reproduction slaves.
“I don’t feel like it’s a male or female story; it’s a survival story.”
So true. I’m coming to this television program BECAUSE of its feminism, not in spite of it.
And here’s the other thing: For the sake of arguments, let’s be a completely cynical TV exec who is thinking about the bottom line and profit margins etc. etc.
In a piece that went up on HuffPost this morning, Moss now says that the show is definitely feminist and she is a “card-carrying feminist,” which I find confusingly contradictory to what she’s said before, but good for her!
she apparently said today that it is feminist:
It’s so CLEARLY a story about women and women’s rights. Yes, there are men in it too, of course, but the novel isn’t about “humans.” It’s about women. Like, why are we even discussing this?
To say that ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ is not ostensibly about feminism is like saying ‘Big Night’ is not about the joy of cooking/eating.
Maybe we’ll find out in a year or three that the producers didn’t care about the meanings of the book at all, and just made it because of the Mass Content Hunger among studios and networks - and hey, name recognition of a famous book (good for marketing)!
Wait WHAT?! Elisabeth Moss is in scientology?
As an Alaskan, I agree 100%. It is a constant struggle up here to keep greedy and short sighted folk from digging, drilling, and blasting everything in sight.
You guys have an amazingly beautiful state and some really weird liquor laws.
Wait, what? How does this even work?
Except fetuses, cops, guns and rich white guys.
