The original Saturn was the company that should have stuck around. By the time of its demise it was nothing more than puked out badge-engineered bullshit. GM killed the spirit of Saturn long before the corpse was dead.

Fantastic take. Reasonable miles and a Honda drivetrain seems like a NP, but I just can’t with those mods, especially that deeply stupid shift knob and the muffler delete that just makes it loud for no reason.
I only learned recently (because I don’t remotely give a shit about anything American or even slightly crossover-like), but supposedly the drivetrain and much of the suspension are basically identical to the Acura MDX, or whatever they called the MDX at the time.
Ah yes, the custom muffler delete. I know exactly what that means: Dylan here showed up to Meineke where his buddy Eddie is a tech. Eddie installed some “custom made” mandrel bends, and just... didn’t put on any mufflers.
This is not my cuppa tea, with the ugly ass black wheels and laughable automatic Pep Boys “shift knob” but those are both easily changeable back to stock [or in the case of the wheels, something aftermarket appropriate and silver or bronze]...I had no clue Saturn [or any GM product] was tooling around with a Honda V6…
Good on them to establish up front they were only going to do it until they killed someone.
I want to commend you on describing the occupants of the second vehicle as innocent bystanders (even though they were not standing by) and not describing the people in the crowd as innocent bystanders. I don’t wish harm on anyone, but they weren’t innocent bystanders, they were idiots there to participate and take in…
Neutral: This week sucked. I didn’t have power for the past four days. I was fairly prepared, but there still wasn’t much we could do to help anyone else.
I did the same thing. I don’t need to read anything because the lead picture told me enough.
I apologize profusely to Rob, but I took one look at the pictures and went straight to NO DICE! It’s SGP (Some Guys Project) and the front end mess tells me all I need to know.
I work for Subaru. It’s a trim level.
I think Jalopnik is just straight up reporting on this wrong. It’s probably just a glorified trim level with a touch of branding like Denali or SVO or TRD or whatever.
I wish they would consider a manual Crosstrek XT to reel back in the enthusiasts. Dropping in the engine from the upcoming Toyobaru refresh with a stick and AWD would be a hoot.
NEVER MIND, I’LL TEXT YOU WHILE I’M DRIVING.
Put the WRX engine into the Crosstrek already, cowards.
I’m old enough to remember when the Outback was a Legacy Outback, which was just a Legacy with some plastic cladded and a bit more ground clearance. I guess it worked once, why not try it again.
Here’s the thing. Big tires? roof racks? slight lift? These are the things that are easily and cheaply solved in the aftermarket. You know what these models NEED and can’t be provided by the aftermarket? Transmissions that don’t pull power, overheat and die after 50,000 miles when used off-road.
I hope they are considering adding a version of the Crosstrek to this line-up. The only Subarus I see in my area are Outback, Foresters and Crosstreks.
“We’re hoping that the Wilderness edition...”
