Flew the SR for four years; 3.2 was our max mach for normal ops, 3.3 for emergency or operational necessity. The real limit was CIT temperature limit as you could shell an engine by streaching the compressor blades. This limit, 317dg C, generally occurred in the 3.3 to 3.5 Mach range.
