There are other female Asian pencillers— Fiona Staples is mixed like Doyle, for instance, and there are artists that aren't based in NA but still do work for Big 2 (e.g. Sana Takeda, who works with the aforementioned Marjorie Liu.) They're mostly not very prominent, though.

Years ago seems to mean 2011, so it's not impossible for it to be Annie.

If we're being real, the most well known Canadian will always be Celine. Drake will come and go, but you can go to the most remote villages and you'd still be able to meet someone who can warble some version of My Heart Will Go On.

He also properly attributes the piece to Haida and Robert Davidson, which is more than I can say for most people with PNW tattoos. The artist himself also said he was fine with it. It would've been nice if he had actually asked Davidson before he got the piece, but as these things go he did alright.

In fairness, though, the writer doesn't attribute the boxing getup to the yoga— just why Zdarsky would include him in a superhero story. Calling the tattoo goofy is pretty insensitive though.

What genre is for everyone, though? Slice of life should have a much broader audience than the action comics that dominate the market, in theory. Shoujo and romance comics are generally slice of life comics, and most newspaper strips as well. If it doesn't sell to these readers, I think that's more a failure of…

I watched the intro for this for Idris Elba, and even he could not make Macklemore's rhymes sound cool. I couldn't get myself to sit through the rest.

There's been webcomic coverage before, usually for newer stuff. Rather than Achewood being a special case, I imagine Homestuck's the special case for being such a huge, completely-serialized time commitment. It's unlikely that any of the writers would have read it all, and we can't expect them to do so for this panel.

Although Father John Misty didn't grow up in Washington, he moved to Seattle in his 20s and was part of the local scene for a long while (see: Fleet Foxes, etc.) So saying he's from outside the Seattle area is somewhat inaccurate.

The only thing I complain about w.r.t. Canadian healthcare is lack of public dental coverage, but I'm not sure any country really covers that. The chief complaint I see from other people are the waitlists for elective procedures, but a lot of these surgeries seem unnecessary to me, anecdotally.
