I really like your way of thinking. I've always tried to use that line of thinking in my own business and anyone who I've worked for. Problem is, most employers do not think that way, and I had trouble working with people that do not value their employees or treat them with respect.

I think it depends on the circumstance. For most cases, it should be done with a letter of resignation handed in to your manager in person. In cases involving hostile (or close to hostile) working environments I could see an email resignation, although a phone call may be preferable. I don't think a text message
