How about as an employer I’m not interested in your personal choices. Pregnancy is a choice. I wasn’t there when the sex took place. I didn’t benefit from the orgasm, and I don’t want to pay, ‘cause you decided to be a Mom.

I’m a dude. I have a relatively cushy white-collar job. If I approached my boss and said “hey, I’m feeling burned out, can I take a month long sabbatical?” he would laugh in my face. If I approached my boss and said “hey, my (fictional, nonexistent) wife is having a baby,” he would happily offer me at least a month of

And don’t forget the many, many times per week the childless are called to take care of any off-hours business because the child-full have already vanished off to daycare etc.

Riiiiiight, like there are so many jobs that offer this as an option.

Also, on streets with parallel parking, staying as far to the side as possible puts you at risk of being seriously injured, possibly even killed, by being doored.

This is exactly what annoys the shit out of me. Someone wrote an article attacking Foye and saying oh, well, if you want TIME OFF, you’d better be miserable and covered in vomit and gain 20 pounds AND DON’T LOOK AT ME AND SAY “THIS WAS YOUR CHOICE” blah blah blah. How about people caring for an ailing parent? Sibling?

All the stars.

YES. YES.

I am a working mother, and I approve your message. I actually think people *should* be able to take time off work when they get a new pet. Or to be in a play. Or to learn a new instrument. Or to take a class. Or to do absolutely nothing. Sabbaticals for all!

In the doctor/nurse situation that’s a difference that actually has to do with work, choosing to have a child doesn’t. It’s much more analogous to someone pretending to be a smoker because their workplace allows more breaks for people who choose to smoke resulting in people who choose not to smoke having to do more

But that’s my point, I don’t think she is trying to suggest that maternity leave is like a vacation. It’s just the only way that a woman (or even less likely a man) can get a large chunk of time off from work in the US.

First of all there is no golden path for mothers at work. It’s not a rose garden.

Before thanksgiving, I stop at the Dollar Tree and stock up on disposable takeout containers (aluminum foil type). These are great for sending home doggie bags for my guests.

Plastic bins from the dollar store are GREAT. However, I can’t co-sign cookware or tools. Cookware seems to have low melting points - so its fine for mixing utensils, but if it goes into a pan/skillet...eh. And tools...if you are in a pinch - fine, but the metal used - at least with the screwdrivers I’ve gotten from

I like to look for supplies for my crafting projects. It is so much cheaper to get some of the things at a dollar store than it is at Micheal’s or at Joanne’s.

I’d think that for most of human history it was pretty common for people to have both lean times and times of plenty, and that we should have adapted somewhat so that periods of deprivation don’t wreck us.

My local starbucks informed me last week that they have a strict policy on light ice now. You can have light ice but no more beverage, or they can top it up with water. Not coooooool.

I have two master degrees. I earned the second one while working full time as a teacher. I'm not lazy even through I'm fat.

I kinda hate the dogpile mentality. So they’re going back to eating meat. They’re not forcing you to eat meat, why attack them?

Former ethically motivated vegan here. Their vegan restaurants provide a lot of delicious food for vegans in that region and help make it easier and more pleasurable - and therefore more common! - to live that lifestyle. I remember how much it sucked to be out a restaurant with your friends and the only thing on the
