You know in, My Fair Lady/Pygmalian, Henry isn't a "morally and spiritually superior dude teaching a silly woman how to act", he's a guy that needs to learn that just because a woman is uneducated and poor, that does not make her less valuable as a human being.

By "role choices" you mean the parts she's been offered, right?

He's the male lead on a network sitcom. Doesn't that count as the recognition he deserves?

But like Clone Wars, it's still a kids show, right? Is the Star Wars brand the only thing here of interest for adults? Because if that's the case I think I can safely pass.

Mulaney, despite being a pretty great stand-up writer could just be a kind of shitty multi-cam sitcom writer. It's two very different things, and to just blame the execs because they're execs and of course they fucked it up because if they just let Mulaney the genius stand up do what he wants of course it would have

Last week was a misstep. Perhaps an intentional misstep to "catch up" new viewers. A kind of pilot 2.0, but it was stale. Glad to see the show back on track, feeling fresh again

Clearly he doesn't consider his kid's random classmates as people in his own life. Do/would you?

That's surprising. There's been a lot of great Romantic Comedies over the years. No love for the Apatow oeuvre, 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up? Edgar Wright's Zom-Rom-Com Shuan of the Dead or his delightfully nerdy adaptation of Scott Pilgrim? Nothing for cinematic classics like His Girl Friday or Annie Hall? Even

I don't think the line was an attack on Mindy's body image. He said "big", not "fat". Lets not forget a lot of guys like big butts, and I think its reasonable to assume Danny likes this feature of Mindy's body.

Yes, clearly. I would point to Jonah Hill as evidence for my pov. He was clearly angry, not just blowing off his attacker. I would also point to pro wrestling's "suck it" while gesturing to the crouch as further evidence the phrase is based in macho posturing. Also I'm a straight male with many first hand accounts of

I wrote this in more detail somewhere below but "suck my dick" is essentially an attack on the target's masculinity. "you are less than a man" or at least "you are less of a man than me" Adding f****t just makes the sentiment harsher (and considerably more offensive to an observer)

Let's deconstruct this for a moment. If I call someone an asshole the sentiment I'm communicating is the same as if I called someone a jerk, just harsher. I'm not implying that they are gross, like a literal asshole. The sentiment is completely divorced from the original meaning of the word. Likewise when Jonah Hill

Consider these two utterances: "Fuck that black guy who mugged me" versus "Fuck that n****r who mugged me"

Assholes.

Well, no. It wouldn't occur to me, but I'm not Jonah Hill, either. I rarely use profanity in my day-to-day so I don't have the need to use extra profane words in heated moments. Jonah Hill is professionally vulgar and I'm pretty sure he has even used the word in movies. (Wolf of Wall Street, but I'm to lazy to check

I agree it was probably a knee-jerk reaction and Jonah Hill didn't consciously process it until after the fact. Rationalization always happens after the fact. If he had rationally processed it before hand he certainly would have chosen a different reaction.

You hit on a point here a lot of people often miss. Hatred/fear of any out group is merely a consequence of mankind's tribal nature not some inherent evilness. Our corner of society no longer considers homosexuals an out group, but that change is recent and incomplete. Education is key.

I disagree. The word has the power to offend whether or not the user of the word subscribes to the pov that there is something disgusting about homosexuality. The user of the word needs only that cultural awareness and intent to insult. Jonah Hill clearly had both.

I didn't write that he was thinking of the bundle of sticks definition. The word doesn't retain it's power to offend because it's used to DESCRIBE a homosexual male. It retains it's power to offend because it's used to BELITTLE and HURT homosexual males. Jonah Hill was trying to belittle and hurt his harasser.

There's no evidence to support your characterization that Jonah Hill is disgusted by the idea of two guys having sex. F****t isn't the exclusive word of homophobes. It has a recent tradition of being a catch-all insult exchanged between men. It makes sense that Jonah Hill in the moment wouldn't have found "asshole" or
