I watch the Olympics as a sports and entertainment but I still wish NBC carried more of an editorial edge toward's Putin's Russia throughout their broadcasts. Costas commentary tonight was nice, but they should do more. I also contend that Weir's outfits are a big fuck you to Putin, so there's that too.

Well depth matters. Sure, our 20 best players can match up to Canda's 20 best (almost) but Canada's 2nd 20 would destroy our 2nd 20.

Yeah, you're right. It's all so on display in figure skating so it becomes easy for fans to project/speculate/become outraged.

Hey, who am I to judge. I suppose the idea of competition doesn't appeal to everybody but here in America it's a cultural value ingrained in us. It is present in our economic system, our education and, our arts and entertainment. It would be unusual for an American (which I assumed you were) to not see the appeal of

You really don't get why people have the desire to compete in their chosen discipline? You don't get that people want to prove themselves as athletes and performers? You don't get how that makes for compelling television?

I'm not sure why you're trying to troll me. The NHL has 24 American franchises that all draw thousands of paying fans over 40 times a year. It's a popular sport.

Skating and gymnastics are two Olympic events that feature a unique melding of grace and brute strength

In real sports, you don't cry and complain "my favorite should have won"

Agreed. She skates with such strong personality. And she looks and skates like a powerful adult athlete, which I like.

Time for me to weigh in on something I'm pretty ignorant on, although that's sort of the point, right? It's figure skating and the scoring system is impenetrable, right? Wrong! This is on NBC. They make very little effort to educate their audience on the rules of the sport and make even littler effort to provide

No it wasn't entirely fair. I still contend that ladies' figure skating emphasizes girlishness and that's reflected in more than just the ages of the athletes although that's part of it.

To be fair, that empty netter only nearly happened because the linesman got in the way of the Canadian defender.

Fuck Putin and fuck the IOC for rewarding the games to him. I'm right there with you, but my feelings towards Russia's government doesn't extend to their athletes. That Russian hockey team is a fun exciting team and I would've liked to see them in a medal game with USA or Canada. USA/Canada vs Finland just isn't quite

USA vs Canada Women's Hockey is going to overtime. Classic rivalry.

"She's the worst"

Also Russia is out in hockey. That deserves a mention. It's absolutely shocking.

Will she be able to spin like that when she grows into an adult body? I doubt it. Seems kind of unfair to her more mature competition.

Love curling when I catch it. I'll make a point to catch the gold medal matches which will be the first curling I see this Olympics. It looks fun and not dangerous. Every 4 years I think to myself, I should start curling recreationaly, but then the Olympics end and I don't. This is the year.

Did you notice how Tara tried to steer the narrative away from the Americans towards the most exciting contenders. They're ready.

Vonn is the much more decorated regular season skier with 17 world cup season titles. Mancuso has zero. Mancuso steps it up for the Olympics but she's never had the type of success Vonn has had over the course of a season.
