Or maybe you’re just an asshole who can’t grasp the difference between the prescriptivist and descriptivist uses of language.

Pedant: guy who breaks out the dictionary definition of things on the internet to prove once and for all that they’re smarter than you, regardless of what the common usage of words or phrases may actually imply on a larger cultural basis. (me)

This is basically where I’m at. I like Brooker, but with the projects I have going on and my workload, I basically have no time for TV or movies. I just want another series of So Wrong It’s Right to put in my ears while I’m at work.

There’s very little that makes me avoid science fiction more than the sort of science fiction fan who decries sf media because it’s not either a) hard-sf, grounded in known science and realistic to a fault or b) the Dickian school where the science can be dodgy, as long as it makes you think really hard about

Well, I meant tonally. Though, yes, they did tend to be visually dimmer as well.

and then they make more movies to earn more money and they use the money to buy more cocaine so they can work harder and make more movies...

We probably did - not like we can check until they port over the old comments sections.

In short - why the dark animation period of the early 80s? What brought that on?

I believe Bluth had left Disney by that point, but the films are interestingly comparable, in that they were, if memory serves, tonally similar (as compared to your average Disney film or film designed to compete with Disney) and produced and released in the same year, or less than two years apart. Something like that.

No love for Strapping in the Gene’s credits? Weird.

My problem with this sort of thing is that it inevitably means that people with reasonably-aligned moral compasses are leaving jobs where they’re in conflict with the edicts handed down from above, jobs that will immediately be filled by shit-assed scumbags who will gleefully implement every cockamamie bullshit

but if the av club and the discus thing is fixed by this? who knows

Oh, the merge seems to have happened. Huh.

Well, crap. So I built an account under my AV Club username (Allen Wren) and then came here to comment about a thing and found I was already logged in to the account I built to post on some other site like once. No idea what I should do about that, but definitely of the opinion that I should do something, because the

Read that as Lars Ulrich and got incredibly confused for a moment.

My paternal grandfather (of Hungarian extraction, but from modern-day Romania, when it was part of Austria-Hungary) had a cherry tree in our backyard in suburban New Jersey and would make his own. I did not learn this (nor was I old enough to drink) until after his passing (and the tree's death) in the early 90s, but

oh god now it's time for existential terror vis-a-vis the nature of reality and if i'm actually alive or if I die every night and come back and whether or not I'm the same person when all my cells are constantly dying just what I needed before work aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

mice generally don't have the understanding of mise-en-scene or thematic development to appreciate the french new wave tho

It probably was pretty fun, I come off way more harsh about the thing here than I actually feel about it. I mean, it's still bad and occasionally offensive, but it's a dumb good time.

How many times were these people born? A favorite movie for every year I'm born means I pick `81 and that's it. I guess, unless I get born-again. Unlikely.
