The way I read it, it seemed like he was busted down to Senior Airman, and his time in put him over the cap. Maybe he was near the cap when he got promoted originally, so he couldn’t spend any more time at that rank.

It’s worth noting you can only donate to a GoFundMe you know about. If the white dude’s family got the word out to more people, it would make sense that it had more money. Also, like Matt says, the goal was a lot lower for theirs, so people tend to adjust their donation mentality to the total needed.

Exactly. On the one hand, it isn’t the developer’s fault that people are being so irresponsible with their product. On the other hand, if you’re Niantic, and you have the means to potentially keep a few more people alive, that seems like a worthwhile reason to risk some revenue.
