yeah, that's the kind of left-field thing that would be more surprising than if she's a Skywalker

totally agree. Some people complained but I'm glad they didn't unnecessarily twist us in the wind about Ren (we KNEW he was going to be related somehow, to either Luke or Leia), which also gives me hope that Rey's parentage, since its kept such a mystery, will actually be a surprise. Like, they're trying to earn fans…
lol totally. There are probably missing pieces which we won't learn until VIII and which will make all speculation moot. But based on what we know right now I think its a red herring, or its cheap mystery (with Abrams, that is not out of the realm of possibility, of course)
I think the Finn/Phasma thing is explained in context, that she was his captain and had ordered him to be reconditioned, he was powerless under her, and now the tables had turned. not sure we needed much more than that, but I wouldn't have minded more of Phasma/better use of her, for sure.
after my first viewing, I was convinced she is Luke's daughter. But after the second, I just felt like it was TOO obvious, so I felt like they really wanted us to think she is Luke's daughter. There's no reason to do that without revealing it unless its a red herring.
crazy how much work they went through for those voiceovers lol
if so then I have nothing else to do for the next two years lol.
yeah I think people are expecting Ep. VIII to have the same "i am your father" kind of moment, but Rey would probably be stoked to learn that Luke is her dad (I know i would!!). And the revelation for Luke that Vader is his father is not good news, to say the least. So if VIII wants to mimic that kind of…
lol sorry. I've been maybe thinking about this movie too much.
So here's my Rey theory. I've posted it elsewhere in here in bits but I want to see what other people who've thought about this movie so much think.
I'm not really sure what you think is missing. There are some mysteries left, which I think are intentional, and there are plot holes and crazy coincidences, which I doubt have logical explanations hidden in extra scenes.
yeah these are great moments. I think the best moment in the movie is as Han is dying he reaches up to lovingly touch his son's face. Just beautiful and sad.
the lightsaber was with Finn when he first arrived there, so I think R2 turning back on is tied to Rey herself.
Great point. And not to mention that Lucas is always lauded for basing his stories on Joseph Campbells work which is pretty much all about archetypes of character and story repeating throughout human history.
oh i'm sure NGT will have all kinds of hilarious takes on the "science" in TFA. Like, they blow up Starkiller Base that is holding the power of an entire sun but safely fly away as if that explosion wouldn't wipe out the entire system they're in.
I agree that, as the first in a new trilogy, TFA has many more unanswered questions than TPM or ANH, but what gives me hope about this is that Abrams mentioned that Rian Johnson requested certain things be put in TFA based on what he is working on for future episodes, so I think something will come from the…
The fun thing about being surprised is that you didn't see it coming, so enjoy your surprise in two years!
yeah, but, like, light speed man!
i didn't, cause it was dope! It was Han being Han! Never tell me the odds! I don't worry about that until I've done it!
Even though these movies are kind of shying away from the prequels, we did learn there that Jedi started training very young, so its possible that a 5 year old Rey could have already had a few years of Force training. She might have forgotten it through some kind of "Jedi mind wipe" or just repressed it due to the…
