You're totally right. He really freaks out about a girl from Jakku being involved in BB8 escaping. And when he takes her captive he says, "So this is the girl I've been hearing so much about…" when, really, he hasn't heard anything about her but that she helped BB8 escape.

Oh, I have no problem believing she's Luke's daughter, just not Leia's. There's no way she's a Solo/Organa.

I actually don't think the movie built him up that much, except in the beginning. After that it spent a lot of time showing him as an out of control, emotionally weak, damaged young man. He's not a cut and dry villainous big bad, he's a complicated character, and we have no indication that he is any good in a sword

NO, he still has to convince the world of the ONLY implausible scenario regarding Rey's parentage.

The only problem with the "Rey Skywalker" scenario is that she was left as basically a slave to that scavenger lord (he's the one holding her hand in her flashback). I could buy Luke stashing her away to be safe on some planet, but not selling her into a life of miserable servitude.

No one watches Star Wars for the science.

Depends on how young Luke was taking trainees. Even though these movies are avoiding the prequels, we did learn there that Jedi trained children from an incredibly young age. And she might have forgotten through some kind of Jedi mind wipe or because she was just a small child and the ensuing traumas of her life

yeah you never think "Mark Hamill: Great Actor!" but that was next level shit man.

i was going to write this same thing lol. i'm confident it was a fake-out, otherwise it would have been obvious that he dies in this movie.

Well Star Wars is really "space opera" which doesn't really give a shit about scientific fact. I mean, if this is the only thing you find ridiculous with the science of Star Wars….

Oh I can buy that she is Luke's daughter, just not Leia's.

Oh, i can totally buy that Rey is Luke's daughter. Just not Leia's. If she turns out to be Leia's daughter, that's a cheap trick that they didn't do nearly enough ground work to earn.

oh i totally buy that she could be Luke's daughter…just not Leia's. If she's Ren's sister, that's a cheap trick, because I don't think they did nearly enough ground work to pull that off believably.

I do agree that R2's "Droid Depression" was eye-rolling dumb. I mean, just plug that fucker in. Luke had to charge him on Dagobah, so I'm sure there's some extra plugs lying around (unless the Resistance uses, like, European outlets and R2 requires an American one)

One criticism of TFA is that it is really dependent on what happens in the next two movies (and its a totally valid concern, I think). But I just remembered Abrams talking about how he worked with Rian Johnson to make sure that things that were going to be important to Johnsons scripts were set up in this movie, which

i can't believe how wrong you are. I guess you're just happy with any old bell curve no matter how corporate!

I also blame JJ Abrams for Carrie Fisher's face

but his face had all the feels!

fair enough! :)
