Doesn’t matter. The number should still be looming over them whether they ever pay any of it or not (with a legit job, at least some garnishment would likely happen). It’s the principle of a proper settlement.

More importantly is a much longer jail sentence.

That restitution is missing a 1 in front of it at minimum - or really a 0 at the end based on the injuries.

The sentence should have been 5x as long as well.  This ahole will be out on parole in under a year I bet.

What a bullshit joke of a sentence. The restitution amount wouldn’t even pay for one-quarter of a new bus, were we to even engage in the fantasy that he’ll ever hold down a job to pay any restitution from.

Not long enough.

I mean it won't be long till California loses that factory and there's even more tents around that place.

Yeah, but if those 3 swigs are likely to get his BAC over the limit. If he’s under the limit, than all bets are off.

He lost his job and went to jail for this and lost his license for almost 3 years.

Yeah, no way strangers are driving my car even for a lot of money. I’ll let the car sit and dry rot the tires before that happens.

Step one is just pay for the damned damage waiver. I had a Mercedes sedan comprehensively *destroyed* in a hotel parking lot overnight once. With the damage waiver the sum total of Hertz response was “are you OK?”, then “Have a nice day, sorry for the bother”.

I think a lot of people get in to it after buying a new car, thinking they’ll make up the car payment + some profit, and then sell it in a couple years. Obviously being in good condition is key to this strategy.

No rental car company would replace the dash because of those tiny scratches.

Putting these people on a no-fly list wouldn’t be denying them transportation. They could still drive, take a bus, or take a train to distant destinations.

Well, now I just know that you don’t understand how A/C works in a car.

Part of the issue is the air conditioning though, they’re constantly in and out so the AC duty cycle is higher, same with the heat. AC and heating aren’t really friendly to EV range, especially when you have that sort of duty cycle.

Some tailgaters are a—holes but some are just exasperated drivers who would like to drive faster than the traffic in front of them and can’t understand why they won’t move. I don’t understand why anyone would care that someone wants to drive faster than they do. It’s not some insult to you and your family if someone

So basically every comparison made in the article is completely irrelevant? if a ram TRX gets 12 MPG on the EPA combined I’d hate to see what it gets on the USPS cycle.

‘well, you’re absolutely right, we know nothing about bobsledding. But we know a lot about winning, which apparently you don’t.’

Hot Take! did you just figure this out or have you been waiting 40 years to post this?

What on earth are you trying to demonstrate here? I’ll spell it out for you:

If you read the article, they’re forecasting a day.
