As much as the whole idea of a young hacker doing some techno gobbly guck to get in sounds fun, what do you want to bet this hack was done because someone clicked on an email scam or some idiot made their password “Passw0rd”

As a parent of two young ones (who, FWIW, I wouldn’t even dream of just dropping them off at a game stop, btw), *do not* feel bad about doing this.
Lot of people in these comments not wanting to admit they had shitty parents that made them other peoples problem.
Leaving your (well behaved) kid to their own devices in public is one thing. Kids have the right to exist in public space. Expecting the employees to be responsible for keeping kids from wandering off... very much NOT the same thing.
I mean, plenty of people are assholes. Not really going to dispute that.
At the end of the day I just see summons and magic as a different means to the same end as a menu option to decrease damage you take or inflict. The point that it’s just playing the game is kinda my argument as well in that mechanics in the game are made available for you to reach that end. Just not through a menu…
There’s no ‘secretly’. Cheesing is part of the game. The game doesn’t handle you with kid gloves so if you can get that boss stuck on a corner you do it. You find a sword that stacks with another sword and it bleeds bosses like a stuck pig and you use it.
Upgrade to your level of comfort. There are plenty of people who just speedrun the game and never level up.
I remember people arguing with me when I said that though. They want a difficulty slider or nothing.
Absolutely all of the above. Elden Ring absolutely has difficulty modes. They are just baked into the game. I wouldn’t have stood a chance beating this game without my ash summons. That they handled it so masterfully is part of the reason the game sold so well to non-Souls gamers (like me).
I mean...if you want to take Elden Ring as an example, Sprit Ashes, Player summons, Magic in general, Torrent in general for some overworld bosses, several unique weapons ie: Blasphemous Blade, Moonveil etc. So yeah, alot of options just not in a neat menu for you
Find all the lanterns as 90% of the time there’s one right near the boss chamber.
And then 160 501 hundred words from a very angry person who never played a FromSoft game and thus never noticed there are difficulty options, they’re just not in a slider menu.
Yes it does, for certain games.
At least Dark Souls and Bloodborne LIVE from that fine balance between risk and reward. Make the reward worse and the game becomes less fun, make it less risky and the game will not be as satisfying.
Sure, you could play those games with 200% health and 50% more defense, but then the game…
Wrong, it effects how a developer makes their game. And they have every right to make the game how they want and not cater to people who think they deserve to have a game accessible to their personal tastes.
I get some people feel having a difficulty choice is to their liking. But do keep in mind, it’s a matter of personal preference. We all played games with and without difficulty option, and we can’t say it’s better with/without that option, and all games should / shouldn’t have the option, because the option itself…
to everyone wondering where our post was: this was it. it took a while assembling all the responses from current and former kotaku dot com staffers but all that time gave us the room to honor fahey in the best way we knew how. i didn’t get to work with him long but his personality and wit were infectious. im bummed…
Thanks for this. I know folks have been hard on you guys for not posting, selfishly I was one of them. If it’s any consolation, it’s because his work touched so many people throughout the years. He was so visceral about his life and his health, that his death provoked a similar reaction in many of his fans. Mike was…
Here’s your article, people. I wonder why it took so long? Look at all these tributes. RIP, Mike.
