Depends on how you like to play games, but at least as far as “advice I wish I had when I started playing”: don’t worry about missing some side-stuff. I played the game the way you are playing it (it would seem), and I’m like 70% through now and VERY burnt out on it.

If you’re not a huge fan of Rogue-likes...best of luck. Not even trying to be snarky; Hollow Knight even on Normal is pretty unforgiving, and pretty frustrating at many points.
