@keithmo: If you're True-crypt-ing your drives, it may be easier just to find a friend who can keep your drive at their place. You can also do the same for them.

@theamazingpete: Make sure your DVR has a firmware that is capable of automatically adjusting the new drive. Some are set up to expect the original drive, or look for software kept on that drive.

@tacotime: Western Digital are generally the brand with the best overall rep. When it comes to choosing, remember to check the name of the actual drive manufacturer, not the name on the enclosure
