I hate Illinois Hawaiians.
I hate Illinois Hawaiians.
And what does grammar Hawaiian even mean?
Yeah, but what do you do when you want to talk about all those Hawaiian death camps? Or the impending Neo-Hawaiian marches?
I was on a message board years ago that filtered “nazi” into “Hawaiian”, loved the idea.
Ahhh I see another race baiter. This is the same shit as when people blamed pokemon for creating jynx. The people looking for shit to bitch about come up with the idea that jynx is black face. No. jynx was made to imitate the ganguro style.
As for Mr. Popo.... an alien. A freakin’ alien that does not belong on earth.…
Let’s not forget how in the 1960s, Osamu Tezuka would constantly complain about how all Americans thought Japanese people ate dogs or how they wanted him to change something in Mighty Atom/Astro Boy to fit in with American culture.
I’m of Indian descent (descending from *ahem* actual India), a self-proclaimed otaku and fan of cosplay. As such, I have contemplated the disparity between my skin color and common character shapes, sizes, colors, etc.
But Mr. Popo is based on an Arabic concept of Djinn’s/Genies...
Creators intent is always important when dealing with racism. If this was made for American audiences then yes you could make the black face argument. However it’s not it was made with Japanese audiences in mind, beyond that his outfit is clearly Arabic as his inspiration is a Djinn/Genie an arabic creation. It’s not…
Mr. Popo is TECHNICALLY a keeper of the Lookout and serves the current “Kami” or guardian of the Earth. He’s more of a servant than a slave.
They’re race baiters, that’s all. Trying to find the smallest of things and stretching them out to be racist. Did they not watch dragonball to watch how OP Mr. Popo was? At one point he was one of the strongest characters in the DB universe.
As kids, many of us grew up with Dragon Ball Z’s Mr. Popo, a dark-skinned slave with puffy red lips
“ 4. Losing to a noob who couldn’t keep his head together. “
The only loss I respect is the Johto one (ironic, I know!): Blaziken just kicks ass!
Part of the appeal for some children could be that Ash isn’t the best, and the show is probably trying to teach lessons about being a sore loser. Okay, fine. Part of the point of having Ash constantly lose is that it’s easy for kids to plug into the show whenever. This is Ash, a good kid, and he always loses.
They are his enablers, and he needs to get far, far away from them.
FUCKIN BULLSHIT THAT WHAT THAT WAS.
All the production value in the world won’t change the fact that the Pokemon anime is not about narrative growth for the protagonist.
Have you seen the last video where he talks about his fan cringe?
