Never understood why this scene gets so much flack. Its supposed to sound fake as all hell after all. Its not real laughter but like you said forced. Real laughter would show the characters to be sociopaths who are completely unfazed by the horrible situation they find themselves in.

No one’s criticizing the context of the scene, just the voice actor’s horrible laugh. Even for forced laughs it was bad.

I only tried to play Final Fantasy X recently and it took me a while to realize why Tidys’ voice was so obnoxiously familiar. It’s cause he’s Johnny Test, from my least favorite cartoon of the same name from my usual Saturday morning routine when I was a kid.
