I agree that on a certain level it’s mindless, but there’s another level that has subtle winks toward Serial/Making a Murderer/etc. that you have to watch for.
Aren’t those two pieces of advice conflicting? One says be modest and don’t overreach, while the other says reach for whatever it is that drives you?
Here in Austin Tim is seen as a champion of progressive values (see Drafthouse action on gender inclusive bathrooms, all-female Wonder Woman screening). Rehiring this guy was so tone deaf to call into question his motivations for any previous good deeds. Good PR?

Feels like this is heading the way of Chapelle Show. Well-intentioned, talented producers put together an entertaining show with insightful social commentary. Ratings are great. Then they realize half the people tuning love it for the completely wrong reasons.
