Even when Windows wants to move to 10, it prompts you several times when it wants to upgrade as well as provide options to upgrade at a later time (hours and days). Often times people forget that they saw these upgrade prompts or have them hidden entirely, so it comes as to a “surprise” when Windows takes over.

And that is why these people get into trouble. They backlog the OS too much, so when an important update drops, instead of happening off hours (if you use Sleep) or the next time you boot the system, it forces itself to update.
