I’m curious what this “more money than we earn” they were spending went to. Part of me suspects it went after chasing “trends” like NFTs/Crypto, “The Metaverse”, and “AI created content” that were never going to make money at scale for someone like Epic.

I’m just not sure why you would really spend a lot of money updating a Gen 8 game for Gen 9. A lot of the stuff from the previous gen still looks fine, and you can run it on the current generation of hardware. It doesn’t look eye-bleedingly gorgeous, but that’s not why you’d buy a 5 year old game anyway.
