Gwen, thank you for your work. I read your reviews of shows on AVC I don’t even watch (including this one!) for your insightful writing, your excellent sense of humor, and to keep learning about how a good critic thinks about culture, both in the big, broad, important ways, and in those little and hilarious. Thanks

Thank you for all the years of swimming though seasons with great observations and good cheer. The shows didn’t always hold up but your writing was honest and candid. You didn’t mention any future plans, hoping to see your talent elsewhere?

I don’t watch this crap. I come here to read Gwen review the mess. AVClub = whack. Gwen Ihnat = good stuff.

No, that’s bullshit. The man is very wrong here. Nobody ever said that getting vaccinated was 100% protection against COVID and the initial studies did not show that, they showed that it reduced the risk of getting hospitalized or dying. The initial analysis only looked at infections in a cursory way anyway.

Thats implying science and understanding isn't evolving.  Also Omikron wasn't around six months ago, he's trying to act smart while actually being dumb.

He might not be technically wrong, but he’s also being simplistic as fuck and doing a little cherry picking here. We’ve been dealing with this for over tow years at this point. The situation has evolved and is complex. That little explainer of his barely scratches the surface.

What I’ve seen is he really provides no push-back. It isn’t like he is saying “You say vaccines don’t work, I have a report here with evidence to the contrary, how do you explain this?” It is more like “wow, you’re really smart so that seems true.”

I don’t think anybody ever claimed that getting vaccinated would mean you couldn’t catch or spread COVID, just that it reduced the likelihood dramatically, which is still true. I don’t think any experts have ever said straight up that cloth masks don’t work, just that they’re not as effective as N95's, which is still

What a wonderful phrase!

After many, many times when it’s felt like the end of the AV Club, this truly feels like the end of the AV Club.

Cool story, but how about reporting on G/O Management squeezing out seven of your staff?

I don’t understand how nobody mentions that the performances were basically Springsteen/E-Street karaoke. Not bad, certainly, but it’s an elephant in the room. Or is it that just understood to be the point of the band and I look like a dope for pointing out the obvious?

Are you comparing the popularity of Schmigadoon to the popularity and reach of Mad Men? I mean she’s not even the lead in Schmigadoon (or West Side Story). I do think she’s super talented and was a solid guest, but this analogy seems way off.

I would say that’s more of a recurring theme than a sketch - it’s something that is very familiar in various media (I remember when Mad had a “dark Annie” strip that involved her cooking Sandy and feeding him to an impoverished Daddy Warbucks).

She has such grace and positivity to her. She comes off as very sweet. Matt, he was a great player, but I feel like he got SO focused on winning the game that he would just turn off his personality. I’m looking forward to seeing them meet in the ToC but I’ll be rooting for Amy.

Im so proud of this woman. Style, intelligence, iron skin. I found Matt kinda dull personality wise although I’m happy he made it far as he did. Amy? One of the most enjoyable people to watch since I don’t know, bartender Austin? Hope she breaks all the records, from one lady to another I say fuck yeah!

She’s awesome.

I feel like this is a common reading of the article in these comments and it’s an incorrect reading. Noel isn’t suggesting that the volume of online natter is an indicator of quality. Rather, that something of such popularity and thus theoretical quality has generated so little natter is odd.

Surely given the subject matter of the film, the grade should have been C++?

The sheer, unmitigated gall of actually using, with a straight face, the line ‘I’m putting a team together’ followed IMMEDIATELY by ‘You’re the best in the world at what you do’.
