This reaction is super fascinating. (because everyone was asking where you are from I looked at some of your old comments to figure out you weren’t from North America originally.. though that should be obvious because EVERYONE has at least seen SOME Mr. Rogers these parts.)

I didn’t have this show either (we Aussie kids had something still wholesome called Play School) but I watched this trailer and teared right up. I don’t know how you Americans/Canucks are going to make it through the whole movie!!

I think kids are hard-wired to recognize actual love and caring when they see it. Mr. Rogers radiated authenticity and warmth. If I ever learned he was secretly terrible, my entire worldview would be irreparably shattered.

Mr. Rogers genuinely cared about each and every kid watching the show. He talked right to you in a way that other TV hosts just didn’t. Not just the words he said, but the way he looked at you through the camera. “You always make each day a very special day for me. And do you know how? By just your being you.” I

“Sometimes you need to ask for help.

I’d group Sesame Street with Mr. Rogers, but agree with the rest of your comment. I still tear up watching replays of Big Bird trying to understand where Mr. Hooper was.

Unconditional acceptance.

I honestly think it has to do with his authenticity and how he really was the guy trying to be there for us, even if he didn’t know us.

Personally, I was a child who grew up latchkey. It was the 80s, both of my parents worked and had long commutes. My sister and I had no real adults taking care of us for many hours of the day, and Mr. Rogers was there and made me feel safe. I think he was truly special and filled a need in many kids’ lives.

Yeah I’m also perplexed by this... WHERE DID YOU GROW UP?

Like, do they not get PBS in some places?

I think a lot of it comes from the fact that he was studying to enter the priesthood. I think he saw that organized religion has a place with everyone and he wanted to share the best parts of it without hitting anyone over the head with theology.

Love one another. Treat people with respect. Be kind. Treat animals like

I think it’s because he made us feel like we were all his friends, and that we were all important. We weren’t watching some rando person on TV entertain us. This was someone who loved and cared for us.

Seriously, why am I crying?!

“ I’m not seeing Hanks disappear into the role so much as Hanks playing it.” Yes. I still gently sobbed at my desk, though.

This is kind of touching imagining your mom seeing her first rainbow!!

My sister used to tell me I was adopted. The rest of the fam found it hilarious that I would get upset and cry over this.

Everything is politics. Everything you do, everything you buy, everyone you choose to associate with, all of it has a political component to it. You may not realize it, or like to think about it, but it’s true.

when the nation’s federal government has been hijacked by a minority faction of hillbilly fascists, yes. everything. how can you advocate otherwise?

He took 5 minutes at the end of a 3 hour show to express his opinion.

This is a big freaking deal.

Get over yourself.

And boy, her arms are tired!
