Yeah, I’m surprised at the praise for this show. I absolutely adored the game (all of them actually). Played P5 through three times. I am also very forgiving when it comes to series and movies. I don’t expect them to be faithful recreations of the books or games. However the anime is not very good at all.

Those terrible CG fights and atrocious All-Out Attack in the first episode made me instantly drop it. As you mentioned, P5 deserved better and you’ll do yourself a favor by playing the new game+ instead of watching this.
