“Your blood makes you special”—treading _very_ close to some eugenics shit here.

I’m sorry but “CINEMATIC STRIKE” is just so stupid. Not even in, like, a fun way.

That video gave me confidence that this game is not for me.

You’re right—it’s definitely a normal thing for the genre! I think in the Jedi context, though, it breaches my suspension of disbelief because it’s so far from what other Star Wars media tell us the Jedi stand for.

So the creatures I’m not forced to slaughter I can conscript into my service?

Really though, the first game’s emphasis on killing anything and everything that stood in your way—including and especially local faunacame off to me as some serious dark sider energy. Was not a fan of the dissonance there.

I asked for specifics about what makes that emote “smug”—but you seem to be saying that your feelings justify your interpretation, so I guess I won’t be getting specifics.

I did not imply you weren’t _allowed_ to make your comment. Also just because your position may be popular in some circles doesn’t mean it’s

What is “smug looking” about that emote? Maybe if she had a smirk and not a very obvious smile it would be smug.

I can’t overstate how much I love this article: pairing games with other media. More like this, please!

This is right. When your story depicts a clearly dystopian society (there are only robots left!), your story is political and, in my view, should take that seriously and thoughtfully. Aesthetics are informed by society, which is informed by policy, which is informed by politics, which is informed by people.

Great work,

Your thought experiment is depressing and designed to achieve a cynical end.

Exceptional work. Thank you for telling this story, Sisi.

As much as we might want video games to be something separate from the events and struggles of the world, they are—like everything else—intimately connected to what’s happening all around us. Thank you again for making those tethers more visible in this piece.

Taking you at your word for a moment, if it’s a “1" then it registers as something on your made-up “button under your desk that locks the door” spectrum. And since that’s a very shitty spectrum to register on, it should probably be addressed, no?

“It’s gonna get R’lyeh weird” is genius.

late stage *of human life on planet earth* capitalism

I’m happy to see the Navi love in the comments—hate was WAY overblown at the time.
