The system is never going to be changed from the inside, that is what systems are set up to prevent; they run in self maintaining equilibrium, whatever they were set up doing is what they self select to keep doing. The problem is that they didn’t clean-room reverse engineer the code.  They got it via a decompiler, which isn’t protected.  If Take-Two pushes back on this at all, they’re going to win.

Considering, according to quick google search, the original team says they used a decompiler to generate the source code from the shipped executable. (and debug symbols, which apparently shipped with the PS2/android versions for some reason.)

Reverse engineered code is not piracy. Also, to be able to play GTA with this code you still need the original game.
Reporting on developers making unlawful DMCA claims is certainly important, which is what this is really about.
