I like how she reads off all the absurd suggested names including the Adolph Hitler nomination and then caveats the Schoolie McSchoolface nomination by saying that it was “tongue in cheek”.

Because the prequels sucked. Worse, they completely ignored everything that made Star Wars work. The characters. The mystery. The hints of a larger universe. A universe that looks lived-in. The prequels made everything look brand new, but also small. Every character was connected to the original trilogy, even where it

Also, the amount of speaking time that females get that weren’t named Leia in the original trilogy comes out to a whopping 90 seconds.

He doesn’t have to direct, though. He directed IV and then let others do V and VI. Why he took on directing for the three prequels we’ll never know. Control maybe? He could have written the scripts for VII-IX and then let someone else direct. I bet if he did that for the prequels they would have turned out better.

Not to mention in the past six movies he only had two black characters and they were minor characters. (I like Windu and Lando but c’mon, their combined speaking times was what? Fifteen minutes?) And here’s Disney hiring Boyega as one of the three leads.

Lucas suffers from clinical depression, and pretty much swore off directing for over two decades after the miserable experience he had making Star Wars. Let’s maybe have a little sympathy for that instead of calling him lazy?

I think it’s just best to accept that the prequels happened and move forward.

The man who gave us Jar Jar Binks should never mention slavery in any context.

Disney and Abrams did on their first attempt out of the gate what he couldn’t do with all three prequel films, they made us care even more about the Star Wars universe than we did before.

Sure, there’s the “rhyming” thing, but the prequels delivered tons of new stuff that we never saw in the original films.

I’m not one to defend George Lucas usually, but you have to look at one thing from his perspective. The Force Awakens is a huge hit. It’s fun and while it might be a fan service film to a large degree it also gave us some new characters that we’ve instantly fallen in love with and new worlds to explore and basically
