Personally I'd vouch for the little conversation between Ultron and the Vision after the former has been defeated. It's a pretty random note of lyricism after all the rah-rah CGI porn of the Sokovia battle, but I'm really glad it's there.

The best scene from that movie, and one that no one ever talks about, is the one where Furiosa re-encounters the Vuvalini, and then finds out what happened to them. It's such a powerful moment, and a direct rebuttal to the claim that Fury Road is narratively shallow.

In a year with the most exceptionally wide range of female protagonists in ages, of course they went and gave one of the Best Actress slots to Helen Mirren for showing up in a bland Oscar bait movie no one remembers.

And a big shout-out to PINOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT NOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIR!

I'm an unabashed fan of The Hunger Games—I devoured all three books in the span of a couple of weeks and watched the last three films on opening day—and let me be the first to say, fuck this news. I'm aware that money rules the world, but to have that fact rubbed on my face to this extent is just profoundly

They're making a Hunger Games theme park. They couldn't give less of a shit.

Sense8 is great, but I think Cloud Atlas from a few years ago is right up there with their best work.

If this gets nominated for the Best Animated Feature Oscar and The Second Mother also makes it into Foreign Language Film, my little Brazilian heart just might explode.

It does look pretty middling, but hey, every bland mainstream movie starring a woman is helping curtail the idea that movies about men are the general rule and female-driven films are a special niche.

Jeez guys, is everyone going to have Whiplash at number two?

This is the "Why isn't Kelly Reichardt widely listed as one of the great auteurs of her generation?!" comment.

In the spirit of this comment, I suggest that we all post our Top 10 Movies of 2014 lists right now!

Ah, the time-honored tradition of complaining about acquaintances' bad taste in pop culture. It never fails to bring this community together, does it?

"Mostly-mediocre" my butt, Selma was phenomenal

I was prepared to snicker at the sheer absurdity of the headline, but then I saw the picture and thought "Hey, Ava DuVernay actually makes a pretty good Barbie." I guess we are the fools for never having thought of that.

Oh. That makes more sense in this context.

This is some of the most specific feminist bashing I've ever seen.

I don't necessarily agree with the people who say this is the best Pixar film (it's not as opulent and narratively tight as, say, Ratatouille or WALL-E), but, watching something like this, you really get where those people are coming from. I love it when movies put this much effort into their themes.

"…so he'll presumably be a little more morally-compromised than Superman."

This thread is doubly funny when you remember that Michael Cera's storyline in Arrested Development season 4 involved being surrounded by pedophiles.
