Now there's an original joke.

The Truman Show is already one of my favorite films as it is, but since we're talking about new visions, I do think a darker, less accessible take on the same material could be really interesting—not as a replacement but as a complement.

I think it is serious and thoughtful. Just not in any way we're used to.

Strange indeed, but in a good way. The fact that 50% of the movie is pure unfiltered camp and the whole thing still works is part of the reason why it's so great.

As has been said elsewhere, the first movie was about a guy who developed depression after his wife and children got horribly murdered, and then went after his kidnapped son with the help of a mentally challenged woman, so a dark plot would be in keeping with it.

Look, you can say that this is an uncalled-for sequel, sure. You can reasonably complain that Pixar has been doing too many of those, and you can even argue that Finding Nemo is not sufficiently profound to rank among Pixar's greatest achievements.
