I loved it too, dearly, but Scott's review opened my eyes to the fact that it's a seriously flawed movie that never in a million years would have deserved to win a Best Screenplay Oscar. Even if his tone was maybe a tad too vitriolic for a professional reviewer — which was appropriate, really, given that Iñárritu

One thing you should know about Mike D'Angelo is that he has very insular opinions and doesn't give half a shit about hype or reputation when he writes about movies. It occasionally comes off as contrarianism, such as here, but most of the time it's more of a blessing than a curse; nobody else in the mainstream

Also, the movie is (childishly, but still) critiquing superhero/action tentpole movies, and what are those movies known for? Rapid, ADD-pandering editing that doesn't allow scenes or shots to breathe. In a way, the lack of cuts can be seen as a response to that.

Oh, no, I won't have that. Ezra Miller is fantastic.

I like Ed Sheeran and even sort of respect him, but Thinking Out Loud should be banished from the face of the Earth.

Amen. I hated that they cut that scene from Crazy Stupid Love.

…I think you should go see a urologist.

I once loved Cougar Town possibly even more than Abed, but its final season was often grating to watch.

Counterpoint: Laurie is absolutely not there just to be the hot chick. She is that deranged, harrowing, metaphysical clusterfuck's beating human heart.

I will be perfectly happy if this whole comments section is nothing but "simply eat" jokes.
