This Machine Understands the Economic Anxiety of Fascists

Jesus, thank you for saying this so well. This is an atrocious decision that only benefits older established artists at the expense of anyone who isn’t creating music with absolutely no influences(so, effectively, everyone who has ever written music, Marvin Gaye included)

Eh, sometimes it’s both.

Can you think of any female singers today that don’t dress in glamourous contrived outfits and aren’t dancers (and usually actors) on top of that?

Yeah, apologies if this is missing your point or I’m betraying my tech-illiteracy here but what I don’t get in all this controversy is the idea that Tumblr obviously has a responsibility to stop the things on their platform that are illegal but the idea of them practically monitoring everyone’s page is ridiculous so

Yeah, I really don’t agree. Plenty of people are able to hear the song and take it for what it is. The idea that our society should depend on whatever percentage of people are wrongest and loudest is one I think we can pretty forcefully reject.

“What’s in this drink” is absolutely an indication that she did not entirely know how strong the drink was when she accepted it. As most people don’t if they take a glass of christmas punch or egg nog or any halfway decent cocktail that they didn’t order off of a menu. That doesn’t mean it’s been done with nefarious

I actually sort of agree with the pope here. Being gay is really just about being “fashionable” therefore they really have no place in the Church’s tradition of sparkly dresses and fancy hats.

I cannot speak to universal experiences but in my acquaintance are quite a few women who would not see a drink being strong as a bad thing or one that is necessarily being done with harmful intent.

Personally I tend to think that most people understand that there’s a sense of sexual freedom available to people now that didn’t exist 60 years ago.

I don’t think it really requires you to have a detailed understanding of sexual politics of years gone by, it just requires maybe a bit of common sense to assume that this light hearted upbeat song is about the push and pull of sexual desires vs. notions of propriety(which does still exist for a lot of people, even if

Personally, I’m dreaming of a racially-inclusive Christmas.

I’ve always thought that it was more in the sense of in healthy, adult relationships there can be a give and take about what to get up to without it being about sexual coercion.

Not that it matters a great deal but I always took “say, what’s in this drink” to be a fairly honest question about what was in the drink being served and it, perhaps, being slightly stronger than expected.

It does sort of raise the question of why we go through the charade tho

Really? I’m Jewish and it wouldn’t impact me from being in Congress. The Senate Minority leader seems to be able to cope. The senior Senator from Vermont seems to manage. Ditto the Senior Senator from Hawaii. Plus all manner of Jewish congresspeople through the ages.

I also very much like the Ernest and Shiny ciders.

Every time I read one of these articles I’m just reminded of that Dan Savage line about how a lot of pornography is made exclusively for lonely and angry men.

But isn’t it supposed to be?

I think the “answer” such as it is is that for a lot of people sex is such a powerful drive that getting it, and the resulting physical/emotional gratification, trumps any consideration they might have towards someone else’s feelings or pleasure.

I apologize if this sounds naive but as someone who’s a little sheltered from these sorts of things the sheer number of people, mainly dudes, who have this woke public face and are happy to go along with the ideas of #metoo until it applies to them and their bros really is shocking.
