I wonder why American Airlines would have a staffing shortage, then I look back to this from their pilots union:

Let’s not forget these staffing shortages were caused by laying off their staff the minute it was legal to do so after taking $50bn in bailouts.

I’m old enough to remember way back in 2020 when all the airlines took government bailout money that came with a restriction on layoffs - waited until the millisecond that restriction ended in the fall and then slashed their workforce. Now that demand is back they - shockingly - can’t get those laid off workers back…

Is it bad that I actually enjoy flying terrible discount airlines? Something about paying basically nothing to fly across the country really makes me giggle.
