No worries! The comments are here for precisely this purpose. I think it’s wonderful that Emma Watson is using her celebrity to promote great causes, and I expect she didn’t even select the content for the video.

Haha, nice. I’m glad you don’t feel bad! You shouldn’t! Yay for discussion!

I just looked back at the headline and I reeeeeally don’t like it. “Celebrity Feminist”? I feel like that is so shady.

and I thought ESPN being over an hour late in even mentioning Arnold Palmer’s death was bad

Is that really a constructive point though? IMO it is pretty obvious that Watson’s video uses hurdles and athleticism as metaphors for determination and overcoming obstacles.

I don’t think there was any outrage or condemning anything. She was just making a constructive point about inclusivity, not trying to tear the whole thing apart.

I think there is often a tendency to look for the mistakes of seemingly earnest white girls. I mean, obviously Emma Watson is insanely wealthy and privileged, but it does seem like she is making every effort here and I can’t really point to her misstepping. I don’t know why Rachel focused on that. Maybe she just
