Their scripts kept winding up with Old Spock sweeping in at completely inappropriate times to save the day and ramble a little. They thought this would be unbelievable to the audience and would rob the rest of the characters of their agency in the story.

That was intentional. I watched and interview with one of the producers of the first film and she sort of saw it has her job to make the movies as 'uncomicbooky' as possible. Including making Wolverine look like your run of the mill action hero.

When you hover over the picture there is and arrow directing you to the next image, which is very much like the old format. In fact, I think the arrow is bigger.

Some of these folks are so attractive it sort of hurts to look at them. Like the sexiness is cutting my eyes.
