I can't ever bring myself to get excited about the Abrams mystery/hype train. The whole "things are only interesting when you don't know what's going on" attitude of his really leaves me cold.

@Willravel: He said flat out that she was dead and came back as a ghost/angel thing to guide them, then returned to heaven, or some such place.
@bob_d: Stories that take place in non-rational universes are pretty boring. If you can do anything and everything without rhyme or reason then your story has no tension. All the best magic stories haves rules and laws.
@Captain_Tripps: Both The Wire and the Shield were amazing popular in their day. House is a wonderfully logical show that all but reveres critical thinking. Numb3s, Bones (for a while), The Mentalist, all cop shows with a strong bases in real science and critical thinking, all very popular.
@Captain_Tripps: They did market it as "Cowboys in Space.' Pretty explicitly. The problem was that Fox saw the budget after the first few episodes filmed and gave up on marketing it because they knew they weren't going to make enough money on it.
@Captain_Tripps: Writing at a lower reading level and writing things that are not true (or that are misleading, purposely or otherwise) are two completely different things.
@SG-17: I both love and hate him. The stuff he does that I like, I like more than anything else I've ever seen. The stuff he does that I hate, I hate so much it makes me see red.
@Captain_Tripps: But you can't cast aside science. If you are using magic to understand the world and how it work then magic IS science. They can cast aside the word all they like, but the process of science is not just about test tubes and computers. It's just the simple act of observing the world systematically…
@LittleDragon: Knightfall is really worth the read. I was surprised by how good it was. I picked it up because it was one of the 'really big moments' in Batman's life that they talk about all the time. But now it's one of the centerpieces of my comic collection.
@StoicPersonEater: Many people have done none of those, and the one they are most likely to have seen got Bane completely wrong.
@Captain_Tripps: Why not say that? Say "In a world of real magic" or "In a world were magic is common." Why do they have to make a direct statement that for there to be magic we have to cast aside science. It shows a blatant disregard (or lack of knowledge) about the actual facts of the world.
@elreyloco: I never read it. The fact that it wasn't written by Moore turned me off.
@elreyloco: I have a dream that once Game of Thrones takes off the next thing HBO will do is a series based of a Moore comic, Top Ten being one of the best options.
@TheGallow: Exactly. It's not like in a world of magic there is no science. That's like saying there would be no logic, or there would be no communication, it's nonsense speak. Science isn't the way the world works, it's the way we explain and observe (and manipulate) the way the world works.
Yeah, I still really hate that 'ruled by magic not science' tag line that they throw around with this show.
@izikavazo: It's their evil plan.
@OkayOctane: I've never tried scripts on it, so I can't say. It does have a note feature where you can underline blocks of text and leave yourself a note. I know it has a bookmarking feature, but I've never used it.
@Captain_Tripps: He's done great stuff. I will never get over how much I loved Atonement.
Wonderful post. Thanks so much.
I looked around for some McAvoy pictures because I SWORE that image of him was ripped from a Children of Dune poster.
