Peter Katis (the National, Frightened Rabbit, Interpol) is mixing the Japandroids album, and I've been looking forward to hearing how that sounds for months. Agreed that the first single kicks ass.
And RTJ3 does too!!!

I'd like to shout out the Veils album from a while ago too - EL-P produces indie rock and the results are fantastic.
Best white rapper, I'm not sure, but best producer? Definitely up there.

Also, RTJ3 is incredible and everyone should listen to it.

Y'all sleeping on Star Vs the Forces of Evil

That's a month before I was born :(

Fun fact: they had to do some press when they first toured Germany based around confirming that they weren't Nazis.

Honestly, the music lists are much better than they've been, and this site introduced me to acts like Noname this year (@AV Club: let Ashley Ray-Harris run the music department!!!)
But more music coverage is always good.

This is a good list????!!!!!!

YES
you're in for a treat

It's just a really solid movie! Decent performances, not overly self-serious, and a great score from Hans Zimmer.

That trailer was everywhere when it first came out and it never got tired for me.
Still need to see the full movie though.

Apparently the script is supposed to be great!

Weiner was one of the greatest documentaries I've ever seen, but idk if that would change if I watched it again, considering what's happened. (I'm looking forward to Moonlight, Jackie, and La La Land. STILL need to see Kubo.)

"Real Friends" has some of Kanye's best lyrics in years, but agreed otherwise.

^yes. If you're looking for bands that sound like that just go and listen to Lambchop's album instead.

Would any of those be good places to "start"? This podcast seems right up my alley. What are some other classic episodes I should listen to?

I'd like to nominate the Pollsters for favorite political podcast. It's the kind of podcast where one of the hosts will throw in random Homestar Runner references while discussing data analysis, and while I haven't been able to bring myself to listen since the election, I love it a lot.

He seems like the kind of guy that would like the Piano Man - Turnstiles era though

^second that. Add "Narcolepsy" and "Not The Same" too.

I had a similar reaction to "She's Not There", as did a music-obsessed person I played it for - the song is so ahead of its time he couldn't tell whether it was a new 60s-inspired band or actually from the 60s.
The Zombies are just great in general.
